ALABAMA JUMP$TART COALITION FOR PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY WHO ARE WE? The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition is a non-profit organization that was established in December 2002 in Alabama. The membership represents over ninety organizations and the members represent the Alabama Department of Education, financial institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and universities and colleges of higher learning. Alabama Jump$tart is a proud affiliate of the National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy which is based in Washington, D.C. and was first convened in 1995. VISION STATEMENT: The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition envisions a time when all Alabama young people will be financially literate and equipped to achieve lifetime financial goals upon graduation from high school.

Janet Parker (Region's Bank), who is on the President's Council from Alabama, has been presented by SHRM with a LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT Award. Please join AJC in congratulating Janet on this achievement. (1/30/2010) Financial Fitness Fair. The CAFEC, UWCA, and NBC 13 are hosting a free family financial Fair at the United Way of Central Alabama in the Auditorium located at 3600 8th Avenue South in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, March 30th from 9:00am until 1:00pm. Please join with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in celebrating "Alabama Saves Week" on Februay 16th in Montgomery at 10:00 am on the steps of the Alabama State Capital. The events will be the kick-off for the national week of focus on February 21st through 28th across America. Alabama Public TV will film the semi-final and final rounds of competition at AUM for delayed viewing on Alabama Public TV. (6/20/2010) Alabama Jump$tart will celebrate the 7th Anniversary of the Day of Financial Literacy for all ACTE Education teachers in Alabama on June 20th, 21st, & 22nd in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center. Location and time of workshops and luncheon will be available at registration. More details regarding volunteer and sponsership opportunities will be posted in early April. (7/19/2010) Alabama Jump$tart will present workshops for all administrators, principals, and teachers in K-12th that attend the Alabama Department of Educations Mega Teachers Conference in July in Mobile at the Mobile Conference Center on Thursday, July 22nd. Location of workshps TBD. (9/01/2010) Joint Leadership Development Conference to be held in Montgomery, Alabama for middle and high school students. Details regarding the event will be released by the ALDOE before June. (10/1/2010) Alabama Jump$tart celebrates Get Smart about Credit and Credit Card month in Alabama. Please take time during September, October, and December to talk with students and family members about the importance of establishing a good credit history, protecting their credit history, protecting personal information for ID Theft, and using credit and credit cards in a responsible manner.
